Iconic country musician Naomi Judd died at the age of 76 on Saturday by suicide following a battle with mental illness, sources confirmed to PEOPLE.
A representative for the late matriarch of the Judd family has not responded to requests for comment.
Her daughters, Ashley and Wynonna, announced her death on Saturday, without naming a specific cause.
“We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered,” they wrote on Instagram.
