Sen. Charles Schumer epitomizes all that is wrong today with American politics.
The New York Democrat has been in Washington, D.C., so long we believe he literally has real connection anymore to the state and the people he is supposed to represent.
To him and people like him, the politics of issues are the most important, not the substance of them.
So it should come as no surprise that he would take Education Secretary Betsy DeVos ‘to task’ for failing to pay out coronavirus relief to DACA college students.
“Sec. @BetsyDeVosED‘s latest attempt to block COVID-relief for DACA students is cruel & unlawful. So many Dreamers have been on the frontlines of COVID, and many desperately need this aid. We will keep fighting for them & all students struggling to recover,” Schumer tweeted late last week.

There’s just one problem here. DeVos is citing actual federal law to ‘deny benefits to the needy illegal immigrants.’ And lo and behold, it’s a statute that Schumer supported.
“Actually, @SenSchumer, we are following the law…in fact, the same law that prohibits non-citizens from receiving U.S. taxpayer-funded student aid like loans and Pell grants…a law you, by the way, voted for,” she wrote in response to his ridiculous statement.

And by the way, Schumer and Democrats including Speaker Nancy Pelosi had an opportunity to work with President Donald Trump on ‘fixing’ the DACA issue but he and his party refused because the president also wanted border security.
Which tells us all we really need to know about where Schumer’s priorities really are.
The problem with Schumer the Politician is that the politics of playing to his unhinged base are more important than actually following the law or getting things done.
