The British Royal Navy denies information about the likely sale of the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales

The British Royal Navy may lose one of its two existing aircraft carriers; Britain, which once declared itself the “mistress of the sea,” is today unable to maintain a powerful fleet. As it turned out, without its colonies it immediately turned into an ordinary European country, but with great self-esteem.

The first rumors that the country’s government was considering the option of removing the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales from the state balance appeared on February 29, the British press wrote about it. And although there was immediately a denial from the Royal Navy fleet, but there is no smoke without fire. The thing is that aircraft carriers are very expensive ships, both to build and to maintain. And Britain has two of them, and little money is allocated for military needs.

In addition, HMS Prince of Wales is undergoing repairs rather than performing its combat missions. As the British media have repeatedly reported, both aircraft carriers turned out to be very “raw”, they have constant problems with the propellers, as well as various other deficiencies. Against this background, information has emerged that the aircraft carrier could be sold or donated to some “friendly” country that has enough funds to maintain it. However, so far, the military has denied these data.

These statements are categorically false. We are fully committed to the continued operation of both HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales – said a spokesman for the Royal Navy.

It is worth noting that the UK has problems not only with aircraft carriers, but also with nuclear submarines, which should already be decommissioned due to their obsolescence, but this is not possible, since the program to build a new series of nuclear submarines has been delayed for several years. The incident with the launch of a Trident ICBM from a British submarine, when the missile crashed next to the nuclear submarine, clearly speaks about the state of the British fleet, so information about the sale of HMS Prince of Wales may be quite reliable…
