Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos star randomly punched in the face in NYC, maniac assailant still free

New York City recently boasted of “significant reductions achieved in most major crime categories citywide,” with the NYPD reporting that overall index crime “dropped another 4.9 percent in the month of April compared to the same month last year.”

A few days later a woman was lassoed while walking down a Bronx street and raped between two parked cars. The crime was captured on video and went viral, and NYC served up a chaser when “beloved hometown actor and Brooklyn native Steve Buscemi,” as the New York Post described the 66-year-old actor, was randomly punched in the face while walking in Manhattan.

Buscemi, who starred in “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire,” was the victim of an unprovoked assault Wednesday that resulted in bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, according to the newspaper.

“I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards,” a worker in the area who saw Buscemi fall told the Post. “He right away got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him.
