The head of Voentorg was detained in the case of embezzlement of funds

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the detention of the head of Voentorg JSC, who is considered involved in the theft of funds on an especially large scale while executing government contracts for the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The name of the detainee is not reported, but according to information on the Voentorg website, its general director is Vladimir Pavlov, who has held this position since 2012.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, a criminal case has already been opened regarding the theft of large funds from the country’s budget, and the head of Voentorg has been charged under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“fraud”).

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the period from 2019 to 2022, the head and employees of Voentorg through dubious schemes caused damage to the state budget amounting to over 400 million rubles. Moreover, they had accomplices in four regions of the country – Moscow, Pskov region, North Ossetia and Stavropol Territory.

The theft of funds occurred during the execution of a contract for the Ministry of Defense for the supply of personal hygiene products worth 625 million rubles. These funds were sold to the department at an unreasonably inflated price…
