Democrats in full-blown ‘panic’ over Harris loss: source
Democrats are in a full-blown “panic” over Vice President Kamala Harris’ blowout loss to former President Donald Trump, a party insider tells The Post.
“In the words of Donald Trump, Chuck Schumer should be fired,” the Dem source added, referring to the soon-to-be Senate minority leader after Republicans also took the upper chamber.
Abortion rights winning streak shattered in Tuesday’s election
Ever since the overturn of Roe v. Wade, abortion rights activists faced a steady string of victories with ballot measures, including in red states like Ohio and Kansas — until Tuesday night.
Anti-abortion activists had seemed unable to compete, but they finally managed to break their post-Roe losing streak, scoring wins in Florida, South Dakota and Nebraska this election cycle.
Florida was perhaps the most significant victory. With roughly 57% in favor of enshrining the right to the procedure in Sunshine State, abortion advocates came up just short of the 60% vote threshold needed to green light their Amendment 4.
In Nebraska, voters backed a measure to ban abortion after the first trimester, and in South Dakota, voters slapped down an amendment guaranteeing abortion access.
Democrats had been hoping abortion could serve as a cudgel in the 2024 cycle as it had in the 2022 midterm elections. Yet when the dust settled, Republicans had won the presidency and control of the Senate.
Ukraine’s Zelensky congratulates Trump: ‘Impressive election victory’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on his 2024 election victory Wednesday, and said he looks forward to working with him on ending the war in Ukraine.
“Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his impressive election victory!” Zelensky wrote on X.
“I recall our great meeting with President Trump back in September, when we discussed in detail the Ukraine-U.S. [sic] strategic partnership, the Victory Plan, and ways to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine,” he said.
“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs,” Zelensky added. “This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer. I am hopeful that we will put it into action together.”

“We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership. We rely on continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States.”
Zelensky went on to say that he looks forward to “personally congratulating” Trump on his big win and “discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine’s strategic partnership with the United States.”
World leaders congratulate Trump on election win
Congratulatory messages for President-elect Donald Trump are rolling in from leaders across the world.

“Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America,” Netanyahu said in a post addressed to both Trump and his wife, Melania. “This is a huge victory! In true friendship, yours, Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu.”

“Congratulations to the President-Elect of the United States of America, @realDonaldTrump,” Bukele wrote in his message. “May God bless and guide you.”

Democrats ‘questioning’ how abortion messaging came up short
A Democratic source in Pennsylvania told The Post that there’s currently “a lot of questioning how abortion protections could pass statewide in so many red states — and House seat flips all over the country — and none of it translates up-ballot.”
Abortion as an election issue had consistently ranked behind the economy and immigration, 2024 polls showed.
Trump vows ‘I will not let you down’ in victory speech sign-off
Donald Trump ended his victory speech just before 3 a.m. Wednesday by promising “I will not let you down” in his second term of office.
“America’s future will be bigger, better, bolder, richer, safer and stronger than it has ever been before. God bless you and God bless America,” Trump, 78, said.

The president elect used his 25-minute speech to hail what he called a “historic realignment” — touting exit polls showing that he gained support among Hispanics, blacks and other minority groups.
“They came from all corners — union, non-union, African-American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Arab American, Muslim American. We had everybody. And it was beautiful,” Trump said.
Trump harks back to assassination attempt: ‘God spared my life for a reason’
President-elect Donald Trump harked back to the assassination attempts against him this summer, contending that God spared him for a reason those fateful days.
“Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason,” Trump proclaimed during his victory speech in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. “And that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness, and now we are going to fulfill that mission together. We’re going to fulfill that.”
“The task before us will not be easy, but I will bring every ounce of energy, spirit and fight that I have in my soul to the job entrusted to me.”

Trump further pledged to try to help end bitter divisions within the country.
“It’s time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us. It’s time to unite and we’re going to try,” he said. “We have to try and it’s going to happen. Success will bring us together.”

“But Bobby,” Trump warned, “leave the oil to me.”

“This will forever be remembered as the day the American people regained control of their country,” he added.
