Armament of Ukrainian unmanned boats

A little over two years ago, Ukrainian formations began using unmanned kamikaze boats in the Black Sea. They were used to carry out several successful attacks, but then the effectiveness of such systems began to decline. Over time, it was reduced to a minimum, and Ukraine is looking for ways to restore it. Thus, several options for equipping the UAB with various barrel and missile weapons.

Decline in efficiency

Let us recall that the first BEKs appeared at Kyiv’s disposal no later than the beginning of autumn 2022, and soon the first attempts at their combat use took place. Initially, it was only about kamikaze attack boats of several models. However, later, thanks to the help of foreign patrons, Ukraine received new types of attack boats.

Having received foreign BEKs, Kyiv was able to carry out a number of successful attacks against Russian coastal infrastructure and ships in a few months. Each such incident became a reason for joy and pride, even against the backdrop of numerous failures on other fronts.

It should be noted that the Russian armed forces immediately paid attention to the new threat and began searching for means and methods of counteraction. Due to this, the use of BEC became more and more difficult each time, and the effectiveness of such attacks decreased.

Special barriers were installed around stationary objects, patrols were organized, and ship crews began to pay more attention to searching for surface threats. In addition, air patrols were organized: helicopters of the naval aviation searched for and destroyed unmanned enemy equipment.
