“Squad” Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez accidentally parodied herself on Monday, ripping into a traditional Democratic ally for rising to the defense of Elon Musk after liberals began circulating a nasty rumor that he is secretly a Nazi.
The controversy began following Musk’s remarks at a pre-inaugural rally for President-elect Donald Trump. The visibly animated entrepreneur danced around the stage, pumped his fists in the air, and thanked a MAGA crowd numbering in the thousands.
“Thank you,” Musk said before placing his right hand over his heart and extending his arm up and outward. “My heart goes out to you. It is thanks to you that the future of civilization is assured.”
The awkward gesture was noticed by CNN’s Erin Burnett, who — perhaps mindful of the network’s recent defamation settlement — didn’t outright call Musk a Nazi, but suggested the salute was “not something you traditionally see at American political rallies.”
That was enough for liberal corners of the internet to kick into overdrive as they sought to tar and feather Musk for secretly harboring fascistic and genocidal ambitions. Unfortunately, Trump critics may have overplayed their hands, and the Anti-Defamation League came to Musk’s defense a short time later.
“This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day and yet so many are on edge.
