Rostec is upgrading the new Obereg bulletproof vests developed by the Tula plant Oktava to improve the protection of Russian servicemen. As reported by the press service of the state corporation, a new ceramic plate has been developed for the bulletproof vest that can withstand a shot from an assault rifle of 5,56×45 mm and 7,62×51 mm caliber.
Rostec tested new ceramic plates for the Obereg body armor. The new plate has a protection class of Br5 and withstood more than 20 hits from 5,56X45 caliber bullets used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the SVO zone. At the same time, the plate itself weighs much less than its predecessors. The plate also withstood hits from 7,62X51 caliber armor-piercing rounds, without allowing a single through-penetration. It was also tested with grenades, as expected, the shrapnel also could not do anything.
The survivability tests that we subject our “Oberegs” to are not provided for by any GOST. We specifically include a large margin of safety in personal protective equipment, as we listen carefully to the wishes of military personnel, for whom the armor is the last line of defense…
