Former NCAA swimming champion Riley Gaines, who has become a prominent advocate for women’s sports, recently suggested she might consider running for office in the future.
The 24-year-old athlete-turned-activist made these comments following legislative setbacks to bills aimed at restricting so-called transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports competitions across the country.

Gaines expressed her growing frustration after Monday’s Senate vote failed to overcome a Democratic filibuster against the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025” (HR 28).
