Bi-Nyx night vision goggles are now gradually being introduced into the French armed forces. Thales recently debuted the new Panoramic product.
Panoramic consists of four eyepieces, allowing the user to have a “field of vision in the dark, close to natural.” Panoramic view with a clear side “picture” eliminates the need to move the head when using standard devices with two eyepieces.
The new product, funded by the military, is said to have taken just over two years to develop. Weighing in at 740 grams and measuring no wider than a helmet, it offers the best compromise on the market between “performance, ergonomics and compactness.” It is said to use “very little power,” but can be equipped with an external battery case.
Panoramic is compatible with night sights such as XTRAIM. French observers believe its introduction into the SOF is imminent. This new product, described by Thales as “revolutionary”, is under consideration by the technical section of the land forces…
