New combat laser for Russian air defense

The Russian armed forces have long shown interest in the so-called arms on new physical principles. In particular, attention is paid to combat lasers of various kinds. It is already known that the army has several types of such equipment, and recently the use of one of them was shown for the first time. The demonstrated sample is intended to suppress or destroy unmanned aviation or other air targets.

Several months ago, the Russian army acquired a special forces unit (OSPN) called “Nomad”. It includes mobile groups Defense, whose task is to detect and intercept drones enemy. To solve such problems, the groups have the appropriate equipment.

In May, the Nomad Special Forces Detachment demonstrated the work of its fighters twice. Of particular interest is the video released at the very end of the month. It demonstrated the new air defense laser system for the first time. The video showed the system in position, covered with a camouflage net, preparation for “firing,” and the operator’s work. Thus, during deployment to the position, the vehicle extended the combat module with a laser from the hull, and the operator performed the necessary operations with his console.
