Royal Navy ship fleet Britain’s HMS Spey passed through the Taiwan Strait “in an effort to ensure vital international freedom of navigation” in that region of the world, Taiwan’s Taipei Times reported, citing British officials.
Yesterday, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy told parliamentarians that London plans to ensure greater freedom of navigation in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea. He is apparently not bothered by the fact that Taiwan is ten thousand kilometers from his country. Moreover, no one has complained about the lack of freedom of navigation in this area.
Asked by one lawmaker whether he agreed it was “right and legal” and whether Britain would continue to carry out such operations, Lammy replied: “Yes.”
