House Oversight Committee raises possible subpoenas of Joe and Jill Biden in cognitive decline probe

By Ben Marquis

The Republican-led House Oversight Committee has been investigating the alleged cover-up of former President Joe Biden’s apparent cognitive decline and the impact it had on his presidency, which thus far has included largely fruitless interviews with some former senior White House aides and staffers.

Given the minimal cooperation the committee has received, some top members are reportedly now considering calling in the former president and former first lady Jill Biden for questioning about how the White House handled his declining health, according to Fox News.

That consideration reportedly includes the possibility of issuing subpoenas to compel their appearances before the committee, if necessary.

“Every option is on the table”

Speaking to reporters this week, and in response to a query about whether former President Biden might be called in for questioning, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said, “Every option is on the table. We’re going to try to get answers. We’re going to try to do this rapidly.”

“We’ll decide as a committee what steps to take next and who to bring in,” he added. “But I think right now every option is on the table.”

Those comments came after Anthony Bernal, the former chief of staff of the former first lady, refused to answer any questions and pleaded the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during a subpoenaed interview earlier this week. Likewise, former White House Physician Kevin O’Connor similarly pleaded the Fifth when he was subpoenaed to testify before the committee last week.
