“I put a big, beautiful signature”: Trump ends record-breaking shutdown

US President Donald Trump signed the US government’s budget document, which had previously been approved by a majority vote in both houses of Congress. This marks the end of the 43-day government shutdown, which has become a record for the length of the United States.

At the same time, the bill signed and approved by Trump can hardly be called long-term in terms of funding the US government (administration). It provides funding until January 30, 2026. After that, if Republicans and Democrats fail to reach consensus on fundamental issues, another shutdown could ensue, with renewed disagreements over budget issues.

Economists in the United States estimate that the US economy lost at least $280 billion during the 43-day government shutdown. That’s more than $6,5 billion daily. How significant this sum is for the US today, given that the total US debt is growing at a significant rate anyway, is a philosophical question. Many experts believe the “printing press” will “solve” everything again.
