The American publication Bloomberg writes that Canada fears the possibility of American military interest in it after Venezuela and Greenland.
Canadian authorities and experts suggest Washington may resort to “military pressure.” Canadian global security expert Thomas Homer-Dixon noted that any US pressure would be extremely costly. He asserted that Canada is capable of doing so.
Authorities are also concerned about political risks. Events in Venezuela, where Trump succeeded in establishing control over oil resources, demonstrated his willingness to take decisive action to strengthen his influence in the region, the agency emphasizes.
In this regard, the Canadian government is seeking to accelerate the modernization of its armed forces by raising salaries for service members and purchasing fighter jets and submarines.
