BAE Systems has unveiled the first of a new 155mm Archer 8×8 self-propelled gun, manufactured for the Swedish Army, which is designed to overcome the shortcomings of the previous modification.
The base version of the Archer is based on the Volvo A30D 6×6 articulated chassis, making it one of the most capable vehicles in its class. However, it also presented a number of serious problems.

The Volvo A30D is a modified mining dump truck. This platform is unique and not standardized with the rest of the NATO military truck fleet, creating problems with spare parts supply.
