Recent releases from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Epstein files have brought renewed attention to a 2006 phone call between then-real estate developer Donald Trump and Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s activities.
The information stems from a 2019 FBI interview with Reiter, which was unsealed as part of a broader cache of documents released earlier this year. According to an FBI summary, Trump contacted Reiter in July 2006, shortly after Epstein’s indictment on a single count of solicitation of prostitution became public.
The call followed a Palm Beach police investigation that began in March 2005, when a 14-year-old girl reported being molested at Epstein’s mansion. Reiter recounted that Trump expressed relief, stating, “Thank goodness you’re stopping him, everyone has known he’s been doing this.”
Trump further described Epstein’s mistress Ghislaine Maxwell — who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence on a sex-trafficking conviction — as “evil” and urged authorities to “focus on her,” calling her Epstein’s “operative.”
