CIA Waged ‘Deception Campaign’ To Help Save US Airman Downed In Iran, Director Says

CIA Director John Ratcliffe acknowledged the CIA’s “deception campaign” launched to help save a U.S. airman shot down in Iran during a Monday press conference.

Ratcliffe noted that he could not reveal everything the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) did, but called the operation a “race against the clock” to rescue the airman and distract Iranian forces. He joined President Donald Trump to address reporters on the successful search-and-rescue mission. A U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down April 3 over Iran. American forces rescued its pilot later that day.

“The CIA executed a deception campaign to confuse the Iranians, who were desperately hunting for our airman. On Saturday morning, we achieved our primary objective by finding and providing confirmation that one of America’s best and bravest was alive and concealed in a mountain crevice, still invisible to the enemy but not to the CIA,” Ratcliffe said…
