President Trump Nominates Pro-Life Dr. Nicole Saphier as Surgeon General

By Steven Ertelt

President Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated Dr. Nicole Saphier, a board-certified radiologist and dedicated pro-life advocate as his choice for Surgeon General.

Saphier has been praised for her decision to choose life for her unborn child despite intense pressure as a teenager to have an abortion.

The announcement positions Saphier — director of breast imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New Jersey, a Fox News medical contributor and best-selling author — to lead the nation’s public health efforts.

The Catholic physician and mother of three would succeed Vivek Murthy if confirmed by the Senate.

Saphier, 44, has long defended the sanctity of life, drawing from her personal experience as a 17-year-old facing an unplanned pregnancy. Many around her urged abortion, warning that continuing the pregnancy would ruin her future and destroy her dreams of becoming a doctor.

“I became pregnant at the age of 17 and I was faced with a huge obstacle: Do I continue on with the pregnancy or do I not?” she has recounted. “A lot of people around me told me that if I continued with the pregnancy that I would never fulfill my dreams of being a doctor.”

She chose life.
