For all intents and purposes, the gathering of cultural elites at the annual Met Gala serves as a comical but rather infuriating reminder that the ruling class that runs America’s urban centers, such as New York and the capital of Washington, D.C., has become irretrievably detached from the interests and concerns of ordinary citizens.
The Met Gala is a freak show, as well, and the fashion is like food made by a Michelin chef and judged by snobby critics: awful. Beauty and taste matter less than impressing pretentious people like Anna Wintour, the lefty magazine mogul and Condé Nast executive. Rather than pizza, social-climber elites would rather eat a microscopic scoop of caviar to achieve a higher social status. Rather than a simple but elegant dress, they would rather turn themselves into a horror movie clown show. The decadence reeks of insecurity.
The hideous fashion isn’t the ultimate point here, but have a glance, if you dare, to get a picture in your mind of the kind of tone-deaf elitism that characterizes this annual event:
