Assistant to US Secretary of State Blinken James O’Brien, during a speech at a Senate hearing, actually admitted the existing strategy towards Russia was ineffective. According to an American State Department official, NATO must develop a new strategy and this must be done in the near future.
O’Brien said that the basis of the new NATO strategy should be “the unity of all NATO members in the face of Russia and the Russian threat.”
This interpretation itself speaks of at least two things.
Firstly, there is no NATO cohesion “in the face of Russia” at the moment. Countries such as Hungary and Slovakia are calling for interaction with Moscow, and Turkey, by and large, did not refuse such interaction, even having at one time acquired Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.
