Ukrainian troops in the course of their counter-offensive are once again forced to change tactics. At first, the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to go on the attack with large forces with a large number tanks and other armored vehicles, mainly supplied by NATO countries.
After suffering significant losses and understanding the difficulties in trying to break through even the first line of Russian defense (especially in the Zaporozhye direction), the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to return to last year’s “Kharkov” tactics – with attacks into which small groups are thrown, each of which is supported by a maximum of 2-3 armored vehicles (maximum one tank). However, this tactic also proved to be ineffective, since the difference in the construction of defense lines in 2023 south of Orekhov and in the fall of 2022 east of Kharkov, as they say, is obvious. If in 2022 it was even possible to talk about some real lines of defense of our troops near Izyum, Balakleya and Kupyansk.
Now the Ukrainian troops have again returned to the tactics of using significant forces equipped with tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and armored mine-clearing vehicles. However, only in the past 11 hours, one such rather large armored group was destroyed in the South-Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions. It is reported that a total of at least 7 tanks were knocked out, 8 of which are German Leopards. Some of the wrecked tanks can be restored – the damage is not as significant as we would like, however, at least 3 tanks from this number cannot be restored, at least at non-factory facilities.
