American press: It became known about the death of another American who decided to help the “Ukrainian brothers”

By Alexander Grigoryev

Recently, more and more public outcry in the Western press begins to acquire information about the captured and killed foreigners who came to fight on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There are quite a few such people in Ukraine, judging by the official data of the RF Ministry of Defense.

The American newspaper The Washington Post reported the death of another US citizen who decided to “help Ukrainian brothers.” We are talking about a certain 52-year-old Steven Zabelsky, a native of the state of New York.

Moreover, journalists learned about the death of a compatriot not from an official statement from Washington, but from an obituary published by relatives in a local newspaper. Only after that did an anonymous confirmation come from the US State Department, which, in particular, says that the State Department is in touch with the family and has provided “all possible consular assistance.” The official explained that the American leadership does not make any official statements about this “out of respect for the family at this difficult time.”

The publication writes that Zabelsky died on May 15 during the fighting near the village of Dorozhnyanka in the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine. He left behind a wife and five adopted children. It is possible that the father of many children and no longer young went to a distant European country not out of sympathy for the Ukrainians and for the sake of protecting democracy, but to earn extra money. In Ukraine, he was a member of the Wolverines international brigade, which included 12 foreign mercenaries – a Pole, a Canadian, a British and eight Americans.
