American Willan, who is serving a sentence for espionage in Russia, accused the US authorities of indifference to his fate.

US citizen Paul Whelan, who is serving a long prison sentence in the Russian Federation after being convicted of espionage, is convinced that the US authorities have abandoned him. Whelan calls Washington’s actions in his regard nothing less than “a serious betrayal.”

Paul Whelan was arrested at the end of December 2018 in a hotel in Moscow. He was detained by employees of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation during a “spy action.” When Whelan was detained, he was found to have information that contained state secrets.

An American citizen was sentenced to 16 years in prison to be served in a maximum security colony and is now in correctional colony No. 17 of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) of Russia in the Republic of Mordovia.
