As reported by Army Recognition, citing the Polish Ministry of Defense, on August 1, the country signed a new agreement with South Korea on the purchase of an additional 180 main combat aircraft. tanks K2 Black Panther.
This latest contract will bring Poland’s planned total tank fleet to 1370 units, making it the largest “tank” power in Europe and significantly strengthening its role as a key NATO land power on the alliance’s eastern flank, the publication notes.
Deliveries of the newly ordered South Korean K2 tanks are expected to begin in 2026. The K2 Black Panther is one of the most advanced main battle tanks developed by South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem to meet modern battlefield requirements. It is armed with a 120mm L/55 smoothbore gun that is compatible with standard NATO ammunition. It has an automatic ammunition loading system that enables a rate of fire of up to 10 rounds per minute.
The tanks delivered to Poland will include both basic K2 variants and upgraded K2PL variants, produced locally under the industrial cooperation program.
