Ask Like a Son, Not a Slave

By: Brendi Wells

If there’s one verse quietly diluted to keep believers passive and powerless, it’s John 16:23–24.

Most of us hear it this way, usually from the King James:

“Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”

Sounds lovely. But that’s the edited version.

Something was removed—two lines that completely change the way we’re meant to pray. The original message wasn’t just about asking for things. It was about asking with Kingdom Authority.

The Words They Took Out

The early Greek manuscripts included something more. And it’s so powerful, you’ll understand why it was silenced:

“Ask without hidden motive and be surrounded by your answer.
Be enveloped by what you desire, that your joy may be full.”

This isn’t just inspiring—it’s the mechanics of answered prayer… it’s spiritual protocol. It teaches us how to ask. Not from desperation. Not from religious repetition. But as those who live inside the answer—already aligned with heaven’s will and tuned to the Father’s frequency.

The Real Meaning of “In My Name”

Let’s look deeper.

In Greek, the phrase “in My Name” is:

ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου (en tō onomati mou)

  • “en” means in, by, or within

  • “onoma” means name, but more than a label—it means character, authority, essence, and mission

So Yahshua wasn’t saying, “Just tack my Name on your request.”
He was saying, “Ask while standing inside My identity.”

In other words:

“Whatever you ask the Father while abiding in My character and authority, He will give it to you.”

This echoes Acts 17:28:

“In Him we live, and move, and have our being.”
(From original Greek: ἐν αὐτῷ γὰρ ζῶμεν καὶ κινούμεθα καὶ ἐσμέν)

We don’t “add” Jesus to our prayers—we become one with Him through relationship, obedience, and trust. And when we ask from that place, we’re not begging—we’re standing in our rightful authority in Christ, before the Father, with the Holy Spirit within us and our will aligned to His. That’s when covenant authority is activated.

Why It Was Hidden

If believers truly understood this truth, we would walk just as Yahshua walked—with power, compassion, and divine authority. He didn’t hide this. He declared it plainly:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do.”
—John 14:12
(Translated from Greek: καὶ μείζονα τούτων ποιήσει)

This was not a promise for a limited time. It wasn’t just for the apostles, the early church, or some “dispensation” now closed. To claim that the age of miracles has ended is a lie straight from the pit of hell.

“Yahshua the Messiah is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
—Hebrews 13:8

“For I am YHWH, I do not change.”
—Malachi 3:6

His Spirit has not changed. His power has not changed. His Word has not changed.

So why isn’t the church walking in this authority?

Because for centuries, religion has trained believers to repeat formulas instead of living in union.
They gave us tradition—but no transformation.
They gave us ritual—but withheld relationship.
They taught us to fear boldness—as if asking in power was arrogance.

And the enemy—working through dead religion, government systems, and compromised scholars—knows exactly what he’s doing. Because if you don’t know who you are, or where you stand, or how to ask… you’ll stop asking at all.

And when the asking stops, the power dries up. Not because God changed, but because we stopped standing in the place of authority that He paid such a high price to restore.

Remember—Our Father walked with Adam in the garden. There was an open line of communion, spirit to Spirit. But that connection was severed when Adam and Eve fell into sin, forfeiting both intimacy and dominion.

Yet when Yahshua rose from the dead, He didn’t just conquer death—He reopened that line. He restored what was lost. He tore the veil. He gave us back the authority Adam surrendered.

Do you see it now?
You were created for communion.
You were redeemed for dominion.
So walk in your original authority—through Christ alone.

A Return to Edenic Authority

When Adam fell in the garden, he didn’t just sin—he lost his position.
He forfeited dominion (Genesis 1:26–28) and was cast out of intimacy with the Father.

But through Yahshua, that dominion was bought back.

“If by one man’s offense death reigned,
much more those who receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Yahshua the Messiah.”

—Romans 5:17
(Translated from original Greek: βασιλεύσουσιν ἐν ζωῇ)

We were meant to reign in life, not cower through it.
We were meant to walk in the Spirit, pray in truth, and ask in union.

This is not theology—it’s survival.
We are in a time of chaos. Of shaking. Of deception.

And Yahshua told us:

“Until now, you’ve asked nothing in this way.
Ask [in Me], and you will receive, so that your joy may be full.”

—John 16:24
(translated from original Greek with restored lines)

This is about restored access.
Restored authority.
And restored relationship with the Father.

Step Out of Ritual—Step Into Covenant

We were never meant to chant words like spells. We were meant to walk as sons and daughters, abiding in the one who gave us His Name.

So ask—not like a stranger, but like an heir (Romans 8:17).
Ask—not in fear, but in alignment.
Ask—not for approval, but from identity.

Because the veil was torn.
The blood was shed.
The access has been granted.

“Come boldly to the throne of grace…”Hebrews 4:16
Not timidly. Boldly. Like one who knows where they stand.

Don’t let them reduce your inheritance to a slogan.
Don’t let anyone convince you that the power Yahshua walked in isn’t for today.

The Father hasn’t changed.
His Son hasn’t changed.
His promises haven’t changed.

Ask in His Name—and mean it.
Abide in His Spirit—and live it.
Your joy isn’t just possible—it’s promised.

“Be enveloped by what you desire… that your gladness be full.”
(Restored from the original Greek of John 16:24; see also Psalm 37:4: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”)

“The Lord is our Judge. The Lord is our Lawgiver. The Lord is our King. He will save us.”
— Isaiah 33:22

This is very interesting, Brendi, but can you give us any references for evidence? Where did you glean this information?
    Thanks!
