The Liberty Loft NORFOLK, Va. — Allyn Walker, an associate professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. has published a book centered around a general call to “destigmatize” pedophilia.
Walker, a female-to-male transsexual who identifies as “nonbinary”, sat down for an interview with far-left activist Noah Berlatsky, whose work has appeared in Slate and the Atlantic, to discuss her book, A Long, Dark Shadow: Minor-attracted People and Their Pursuit of Dignity.
In the interview, Walker stated her openness to the possibility of labeling pedophilia a sexual orientation, despite acknowledging the depravity of what would likely take place if pedophiles were to treat it as such:
I’ve definitely heard the idea that you brought up though that the use of the term minor attracted person suggests that it’s okay to be attracted to children. But using a term that communicates who someone is attracted to doesn’t indicate anything about the morality of that attraction. From my perspective, there is no morality or immorality attached to attraction to anyone because no one can control who they’re attracted to at all. In other words, it’s not who we’re attracted to that’s either okay or not, okay. It’s our behaviors and responding to that attraction that are either okay or not okay.
None of this is about a so-called “pursuit of dignity”, and it’s not about behavior that is and isn’t “okay”. The objective bottom line here is that if you are attracted to children, you have a problem — and if you want society to change the way it approaches that problem because it offends you, you have an even bigger problem. That’s it. There’s no debate here.
Pedophilia is not a sexual orientation. What it is, however, is a condition described by the DSM-V as “recurrent, intense sexual fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child”, with said urges being “acted on or [having] caused significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.”
In short, this isn’t a sexuality, this is a criminal pathology. The fact that it’s a criminal pathology is glaringly obvious. However, Walker would rather pretend that it’s the former, and that our allegedly repressive, patriarchal, cis-heteronormative society is going after helpless victims of circumstance.
That is a lie, and such a lie is as reprehensible as it is brazenly dishonest — pushing the notion that this line of thinking should be sympathized with invariably pursues an end in which it is mainstreamed.
Walker also stated her preference for referring to pedophiles as “minor-attracted people”, as it’s less likely to “stigmatize” them:
“I think it’s important to use terminology for groups that members of that group want others to use for them. MAP advocacy groups like B4UAct have advocated for use of the term, and they’ve advocated for it primarily because it’s less stigmatizing than other terms like pedophile.”
For reference, B4UAct is a group that was co-founded by convicted pedophile Michael Melsheimer.
What this means is that Walker, while attempting to downplay the connection between pedophilia and the commission of sex crimes, has openly stated her intent to cater to the preferences of an organization co-founded by someone who has been convicted of a sex crime against a child. After all, how dare we hurt the feelings of such upstanding citizenry with our misnomers.
Rampant leftism on college campuses is one thing, but openly advocating to legitimize pedophilia, an evil that is near-universally accepted as such, is another. The idea that this is a conversation we’re even being made to entertain is an absurdity.
What we are seeing here is an evidently disturbed human being who has become so blinded by the vast evil of political correctness that she has become unwilling to call legitimate evil for what it is. Instead, she hastily explains it away as simply being yet another case of a “community” being misunderstood and marginalized.
Mill’s harm principle comes into play here — if this is the hill that Walker is going to die on, to the point where she’s published a book about it, then it can safely be assumed that she is beyond unfit for academia. The fact that she has a role in anyone’s education should terrify you.
Societies stigmatize things for a reason, and they often do so because they’re a unique breed of evil.
One’s own refusal to acknowledge the depravity of their twisted desires doesn’t make them a victim of society, and calling oneself such because it refuses to legitimize their perversion is self-centered, moral relativist garbage.
Yet that’s precisely what people like Walker insist on doing, and it is creeping its way into mainstream academia.
Be very afraid.
