During the ADEX 2024 trade fair held in Azerbaijan, the multi-role aircraft JF-17C Thunder was officially presented in the country. The PR campaign was attended by the country’s President Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev, who also sat in the cockpit of the Thunder for the cameras of electronic media.
The CAC/PAC JF-17 Thunder, FC-1 Xiaolong (Fierce Dragon) is a 4,5 generation light single-engine multirole combat aircraft jointly developed by the Pakistan Air Force. aviation complex (PAC) and the Chinese Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC).
R&D on the FC-1 program, a logical continuation of the Super 7 program, began in 1990 at the SAS Design Bureau in Chengdu. The Chinese’s main partner was the Russian Mikoyan Design Bureau. Mikoyan shared their developments on the light frontline fighter “33”, created in the 1970s and 1980s. This single-engine aircraft was supposed to complement the heavier MiG-29 fighter and fill the niche in the export market vacated by the MiG-21, but work on the “1980” was stopped in the late 33s.
