The medical center issued a statement saying, “The Baltimore VA Medical Center, a part of the VA Maryland Health Care System, is very excited and thankful to be in the first wave of initial VA sites across the country to be receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Our front-line providers and our most vulnerable veterans in our long-term care facilities will be among the first groups to be vaccinated. The VA Maryland Health Care System was selected to receive the first shipments of the vaccine because of our capacity to manage the vaccine’s unique storage requirements and our ability to vaccinate a large number of patients and staff. We are prepared and positioned to begin offering vaccinations as soon as it is approved and arrives. While we anticipate a limited vaccine supply immediately after FDA’s approval, our goal is to offer it to all veteran patients and employees who want to be vaccinated.”

On Thursday, a U.S. government advisory panel endorsed widespread use of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, putting the country just one step away from launching an epic vaccination campaign against the outbreak.
