Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is suspending his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, he said on April 8.
Sanders made the announcement during a conference call with campaign staffers on Wednesday morning.
Addressing supporters in a livestream, Sanders thanked people who campaigned for him.
As he spoke, a banner across the bottom of the screen read: “While the campaign ends, the struggle for justice continues on.”
The Democratic field was once crowded with contenders but only Sanders, 78, and former Vice President Joe Biden, 77, were left.
Biden is now the presumptive Democratic nominee.
