The Biden administration has repeatedly said that it will prioritize expanding the rights of LGBTQ persons. Biden released an executive order January 21 on preventing and combating discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation.
âEvery person should be treated with respect and dignity and should be able to live without fear, no matter who they are or whom they love,â the order said.
âAdults should be able to earn a living and pursue a vocation knowing that they will not be fired, demoted, or mistreated because of whom they go home to or because how they dress does not conform to sex-based stereotypes,â the order continued.
The new White House press secretary also criticized supporters of former President Donald Trump and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
âTrump supporters are the worst no [question],â she tweeted in February 2020 on a thread where she also criticized Sanders supporters.
In December, top Biden aide Jen OâMalley Dillon also drew fire for calling Republicans âa bunch of fuckers.â
âIn the primary, people would mock him, like, âYou think you can work with Republicans?ââ she said in an interview with Glamour Magazine.
âIâm not saying theyâre not a bunch of fuckers,â she continued. âMitch McConnell is terrible. But this sense that you couldnât wish for that, you couldnât wish for this bipartisan ideal? He rejected that.â
OâMalley Dillon later said that she âused some words thatâ she âprobably could have chosen better,â Politico reported.
âThe point that I was really making,â she added, âis an incredibly important point. And that really is about the president-elect and why he was supported by over 81 million people, and what they were looking for.â
