The US Navy base at Pensacola is on lock down after a bomb threat was made involving one of the barracks on base.
NAS Pensacola spokesperson Jason Bortz issued tweets saying a bomb threat was made to one of the barracks Sunday morning.
Bortz told local reporters that one of the barracks was evacuated and Naval Security was conducting a sweep of the barracks as well as the entire base with specialized K9 Units.
Both gates at the installation are currently closed until further notice. Base personnel have been instructed to shelter in place.
In December of 2019, NAS Pensacola was the site of a terrorist attack that resulted in the shooting deaths of three US military personnel.
Mohammed Alshamrani, a 21-year-old 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Saudi Air Force, who was here as an exchange aviation student, was found to have been in contact with al Qaeda before carrying out the attack.
The terror attack lasted approximately 15 minutes. Alshamrani used a Glock 9mm that had five extended magazines.
A deputy from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office ultimately shot and killed Alshamrani.
