The nation is in shock as Elon Musk boldly declares that the U.S. Department of Education “no longer exists.” His statement, made in response to growing speculation about the department’s future, follows a dramatic scene outside the Department of Education headquarters where Democratic lawmakers were barred from entering the building by federal security.
Videos circulating online show members of Congress, including Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-CT), a former Teacher of the Year, being physically prevented from accessing the Department of Education. When pressed for an explanation, security officials simply stated that “no meetings were scheduled” and that the department was effectively closed.
