Slay News Republicans on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform have launched a formal investigation into what they describe as “rampant taxpayer fraud in California’s hospice programs.”
The move escalates scrutiny of how the state manages billions in federal taxpayer-funded healthcare spending.
The lawmakers are now demanding answers from Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, arguing that weak oversight has allowed fraud to flourish at the expense of taxpayers and vulnerable patients.
Republicans Warn of Widespread Fraud and Exploitation
In a letter sent to Newsom, committee Republicans pointed to mounting evidence of systemic abuse within California’s hospice system.
“Recent reporting has revealed alarming evidence of fraudulent activity in California’s hospice programs, including agencies overbilling Medicare and fraudulently enrolling beneficiaries without their knowledge,” the letter states.
The lawmakers made clear they view the issue as both a financial and ethical failure.
