If there has ever been a more unprofessional/brazen/blatant attempt to gaslight the American people by a presidential campaign, I don’t know about it. Let me set up what led to it first.
On Thursday, a joyful bit of news appeared about the United States securing the release of Americans (and others) who were being held unjustly in Russian prisons.
One of them, former US Marine Paul Whelan, had been held for around six years.
Late Thursday night into early Friday morning, those Americans returned home to touch down on U.S. soil. And who was there to greet them at Joint Base Andrews? President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. So far, so good.
The official X social media account for Team Harris (known as Kamala HQ) shared remarks from Harris, who was flanked by Biden as she spoke:
Vice President Harris: This is an extraordinary day and I'm very thankful for our president. This is an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and strengthening alliances. The full post reads:
“Vice President Harris: This is an extraordinary day and I’m very thankful for our president. This is an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and strengthening alliances. This is an incredible day and you can see it in the families and in their eyes”
That also seems in line with what you might expect from a loyal vice president to express at such a momentous event. But there’s a problem: That isn’t what Harris said in the video–not even close.
