CBC given grey Twitter checkmark for governmental organization

By Roberto Wakerell-Cruz

A grey checkmark denotes that the “account is verified because it is a government or multilateral organization account.”

The Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) was given a grey verification badge on Twitter, rather than the gold one that was awarded to other state-affiliated media outlets like PBS or NPR.

A grey checkmark denotes that the “account is verified because it is a government or multilateral organization account.”

“Specifically, eligible government institutions include national and local crisis response, public safety, law enforcement, and regulatory agencies, embassies, and other major national level agencies.”

Eligible elected or appointed officials include heads of state, foreign official spokespeople, top diplomatic leaders, and cabinet members (national level). Eligible multilateral organizations include institutional accounts, top officials, and official spokespeople.
