The Centers for Disease Control has changed its guidelines to indicate masks are effective at preventing the wearer from catching COVID-19, not just from spreading it, as the health agency previously said.
The new guidelines specifically indicate that common cloth masks have been shown to reduce exposure for the wearer.
“Studies demonstrate that cloth mask materials can also reduce wearers’ exposure to infectious droplets through filtration, including filtration of fine droplets and particles less than 10 microns,” said the agency.
A typical coronavirus or influenza particle is 100 nanomicrons, or 10,000 times smaller than the number given by the CDC, but is usually bonded to a typical water droplet or dust particle between 5-10 microns.
The CDC indicated, however, that masks with multiple cloth layers are “nearly 50%” effective in filtering particles less than one micron, or anything 1,000 times the size of a COVID-19 particle.
The agency listed several small-scale studies from the U.S., China, and Thailand as examples for its assertions. It also pushed for a greater adoption of measure that would increase masking, saying an increase of 15% nationwide would “prevent the need for lockdowns and and reduce associated losses of up to $1 trillion or about 5% of gross domestic product.”
The CDC has regularly changed its guidelines throughout the course of the pandemic.
BS!
As a matter of general principle I do not take directives from people who can’t make up their minds.
Especially when they don’t sign my paychecks. Unfortunately my employer still mistakes CDC for a legitimate disease control authority.
Yeah, I’m trying to get out of the rat race.
The CDC, along with Fauci change their minds more often than most people change their underwear. Only the ‘Scared-Shitless-Stockholm-Syndrome’ crowd still puts any credence into what either says.
