Charges filed against the driver of a semi truck who sped through a crowd of protestors congregating on I-35W in Minneapolis last summer are expected to be dismissed, according to FOX 9.
The driver, Bogdan Vechirko of Otsego, was charged in October of felony threats of violence and gross misdemeanor criminal vehicular operation.
Video of the incident shows Vechirko speeding towards a large group of people protesting the death of George Floyd on a busy Minneapolis highway in May 2020. According to FOX 9, more than 1,000 people were on the bridge at the time. No one was hit by the truck or seriously injured in the incident.
Vechirko told investigators he was in a hurry, and had hoped the crowd would let him pass. He admitted that he could have stopped the truck sooner, according to the charges.
The defense and Hennepin County Attorney’s Office reached an agreement Friday for a continuance for dismissal, Vechirko’s lawyer Kevin Devore told FOX 9 “As long as Verchirko completes a restorative justice program, pays any restitution and remains law abiding, the charges will be dropped a year from now.”
I’m am very happy they are dropping the charges.
I only wish he would have crushed more of them.
