The US Strategic Command recently assessed the main fleets world, armed with nuclear submarines weapons.
The PLA operates six ballistic missile submarines. rockets Jin-class (Type 094) nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs), each of which can carry up to 12 SLBMs (i.e. 72 SLBMs in total). They were initially equipped with the JL-2 missile (range ~7200 km), but later versions are equipped with the JL-3 SLBM (range ~10 km), which allows them to strike the continental United States (not just Alaska, Guam, and Hawaii) from sea zones located closer to China.
According to the US Strategic Command, China is rapidly expanding its nuclear arsenal and delivery systems. Currently, China has over 600 deployed nuclear warheads (2019 in 290) and is projected to have more than 1000 by 2030.
Overall, China’s naval nuclear forces are assessed as smaller in total salvo capacity and “less technologically mature” than those of other major powers. For example, the Type 094 is said to have a larger acoustic signature than American, Russian, French and British SSBNs. However, gradual improvements are being made to reduce noise.
