“Closing a critical gap in defense”: Germany has adopted the AWS-G air defense system.

The Bundeswehr received its first AWS-G (Arrow Weapon System for Germany) air defense system, developed with US participation based on the Israeli Arrow 3 anti-missile system. This marked the adoption of a new type of anti-aircraft combat system by German forces.

The SAM system will be deployed in Schönewalde, near Berlin. Germany intends to subsequently extend this system to cover a number of other territories, ultimately creating an air defense umbrella over the entire country.

Commanders believe that the deployment of the AWS-G will enable the engagement of targets outside the Earth’s atmosphere at altitudes exceeding 100 km. The Ministry of Defense website cites the new system’s high combat potential..
