Donald Trump Calls for Ending the Russo-Ukrainian Conflict

After President Joe Biden recently made an announcement that the United States government would be sending Abrams tanks to Ukraine, former President Donald Trump called for the war in Ukraine to end.

“FIRST COME THE TANKS, THEN COME THE NUKES. Get this crazy war ended, NOW,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “So easy to do!”

On January 25, 2023, Biden announced that his regime would be sending tanks to Ukraine to help it fend off Russia’s military incursion. This announcement came after German Chancellor Olaf Sholz revealed that Germany would be sending its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

“Germany didn’t force me to change my mind,” Biden declared. “We wanted to make sure we are all together.”

“I’m announcing that the United States will be sending thirty-one Abrams tanks to Ukraine, the equivalent of one Ukrainian battalion,” Biden added, noting that this move was suggested by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

Donald Trump was originally elected in 2016 to bring about reasonable changes to US foreign policy. One front where there was expected to be some positive changes was on foreign policy. Especially with regards to Russia. Trump initially signaled his willingness to normalize ties with Russia.

However, his administration would later be captured by neoconservative types that undermined any efforts to move forward with a rapprochement with Russia. In fact, Trump himself capitulated to this pressure as evidenced by his decision to send lethal weapons to Ukraine back in 2019. In sum, both parties have acted in a belligerent manner towards Russia over the past few decades. So there isn’t much hope for foreign policy change to come from any of these institutions. Trump represents the only realistic option for peace and geopolitical stability at the moment.

Hopefully, Trump has learned from his staffing mistakes and comes with a new team filled with realists and non-interventionists. It’s high time that neocons and their neoliberal interventionist counterparts are sidelined from US politics…
