George Allen Kelly is a 73-year-old rancher being charged with first-degree murder after he killed a Mexican national who was on his property. Kelly is being held on $1 million bail after he allegedly shot and killed a man on the evening of Monday, January 30. Police believe the Mexican national who died may have been a migrant.
Kelly asked a judge about getting his bail reduced, noting that he was concerned about his wife being alone on their ranch,
âSheâs there by herself⊠nobody to take care of her, the livestock, or the ranch,â he said, according to Nogales International.
And Iâm not going anywhere. I canât come up with a million dollars,â he said before asking the judge to âconsider reducing it to any degree,â
The judge told Kelly his attorney would need to request a reduction in the bond, although it is currently unknown if Kellyâs attorney has done so.
Twitter users are calling on Americans to stand up for Kelly. The Mexican man he allegedly shot, Gabriel Cuen-Butimea, was known to have a history of breaking the law with illegal border crossings. Federal court records show the man was deported to his country multiple times.
