An illegal alien convicted of committing a horrific sex crime against a preteen family member was apprehended by federal immigration authorities in Alabama.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted an operation targeting 17 sex offenders in the Yellowhammer State last month.
On Jan. 21, HSI Huntsville collaborated with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and the North Alabama Homeland Security Task Force to arrest Nixon Rubilio Mayen-Fernandez, a Honduran national previously convicted of sexually assaulting his own 11-year-old sister.
“A lead from DHS’ Child Exploitation Investigation Unit, which targets criminal alien sex offenders residing in the United States, led to the arrest,” ICE told Border Hawk.
“HSI agents coordinated with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office to verify Mayen-Fernandez’s sex offender registry compliance. At law enforcement’s request, Mayen-Fernandez reported to the Sheriff’s office, where officers took him in custody for immigration violations.”
Mayen-Fernandez illegally entered the U.S. more than 10 years ago at an unknown location and date.
