Facebook Allowing Human Smugglers to Connect With Migrants, Offer False Hope of Freedom

By

Facebook has often been ridiculed for allowing domestic terrorist groups like Antifa to rally, organize, and promote events on their platform. With the migrant crisis at the Southern border, human traffickers have found a way to use the platform to falsely sell hope and freedom to illegal immigrants who are seeking to take advantage of the weak administration who -let’s be honest – all but begged them to “surge” the border.

According to NBC News, posts (written in Spanish) promising a “100 percent” safe journey into the U.S. have been located, on Facebook Groups with names like, “Migrants in the Mexico-U.S.A. Border Awaiting Hearing,” and “Migrants from Various Countries in Mexico”.

“Vacation to Mexico to the United States. Costs $8,000. 100 p.c safe and sound,” read one Facebook post, written in Spanish. “Cross as a result of Matamoros. You walk a person hour, soon after in auto till you get there to your relative.”

“It’s ready. 3,000 to arrive at the line/ 6000 to jump to your destination. Whatever state. Pay when your relatives receive you,” another post read.

Another post, found by NBC News read: “Make your dream a reality in the United States. We are here to help you. The journey is safe and reliable and the price is $4,500 leaving from Monterrey to San Antonio, Texas,” along with a photo of what appeared to be a family, all in masks sitting on a plane.

Facebook is facilitating further criminal activity by allowing these types of posts to remain on the platforms, and WhatsApp as well by allowing these human smugglers to communicate with those who wish to enter into the United States by way of U.S-Mexico border.

After a mass flagging by NBC News, Facebook removed all the posts and apparently shut down the public Facebook Groups.

It’s no wonder that there is a massive surge at the Southern border with statements from President Biden urging for the border itself to be flooded with undocumented adults and unaccompanied children.

Though now, Biden says “nothing has changed” at the Southern border, ignoring recent U.S. Customs and Border Protection data that is to the contrary. Recent data collected by U.S Customs and Border Protection officials shows 61% increase from 5,858 to 9,457 minors just from January to February 2021.

“The truth of the matter is nothing has changed. As many people came—28 percent increase in children to the border in my administration; 31 percent… before the pandemic in the Trump administration,” Biden said at his very first press conference since taking office March 25th, 2021. “It happens every single, solitary year. There is a significant increase in the number of people coming to the border in the winter months of January, February, March. That happens every year,” he added.

Biden was referring to the overall surge of both adults and children from January to February at 28.8% increase, not that of accompanied and unaccompanied minors, which the U.S. Customs and Border Protection data shows a 68% increase in between January and February this year.

Total increase of accompanied minors, family unit aliens, single adults, UAC/single minors between January and February 2021, at 28.8%:

Total increase of accompanied and UAC/single minors from January to February 2021, at 68%:

Whether Biden misspoke, was given incorrect information, or purposefully gave the wrong information to the public is up for debate.

What is not up for debate, however, is Biden’s comments that while adults would be turned away- “sent back home” at the border, minors would be welcomed in. First Lady Jill Biden says of the children entering in through the Southern border, “We want to make sure these children are safe,” she said, “that they get mental health services, they get physical health services, they get education.”

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently said in a speech in Germany that the social media company would be expanding their “hate against protected groups” policy to include migrants, praising Merkel’s open-door policy.

“German leadership in the refugee crisis, I think, has been inspiring and is a model for the world,” Zuckerberg said. “I hope that more countries follow Germany’s lead on this. I hope the U.S. follows Germany’s lead on this.”

It’s clear that Facebook has been used as a tool for criminal minds who want to take advantage of the current migrant crisis at the Southern border. While the social media platform is busy busting up Facebook Groups that want to discuss things like the pandemic or the rushed vaccine roll out, criminals are using the platform to take advantage of the surge in those trying to enter into the country illegally.

In addition, Central American migrant families understand Biden’s changes to the Title 42 policy, where while adults are turned away at the border, unaccompanied children are accepted and taken in – unlike under the Trump administration where almost all were turned away at the border. Of the children that were not turned away during the Trump administration, they were put up in hotel rooms before being returned to their homes, south of the border. Migrant families are now much more willing to send their children with complete strangers, leaving the possibility of those children being raped, abducted, and trafficked into the country and worse quite high.
