Center for Medical Progress founder David Daleiden said in a statement that the use of âcriminal partial-birth abortions to harvest fetal organsâ was âserious enough that a federal law enforcement agency opened a formal investigation.â

Federal law enforcement investigated controversial research at the University of Pittsburgh on the remains of aborted babies, according to documents obtained through a public records request by the Center for Medical Progress.
Researchers at the school garnered nationwide revulsion two years ago with a study that attempted to cause âsuccessful co-engraftment of human skin, autologous lymphoid tissues, and autologous immune cellsâ with mice and rats in order to provide âa means of studying the human immune response to infection in the human skin.â Pictures in the study showed human hair from the scalps of the aborted babies growing on the backs of rodents.
Reports about the study provoked calls for an investigation into ethical breaches in the experiments, which were funded by the National Institutes of Health and relied on obtaining remains from âmedically or elective indicated termination of pregnancyâ at the nearby Magee Womens Hospital. Citizen journalists at the Center for Medical Progress confirmed that the Office of the Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services issued a subpoena with respect to organ harvesting, as indicated by emails between University of Pittsburgh officials and staff members at the federal agency.
