For the first time in a quarter of a century, a new nuclear reactor has been connected to the power grid in France

French energy corporation EDF today connected its new nuclear power unit Flamanville 25 to the national power grid for the first time in 3 years. This was reported in a special statement published on the company’s website. According to the management, this fact is truly historical event.

EDF teams made the first connection of the EPR at the Flamanville nuclear power plant to the national grid on 21 December 2024 at 11:48 (13:48 Moscow time). The reactor began producing its first electrons – says the press release.

It is emphasized that Flamanville 3 joins the EPRs that are currently in operation in China and Finland.

The joining of the Flamanville EPR is a historic event for the entire nuclear industry.
