Foreign Ministers of Iran and Qatar held talks on de-escalation of the situation around the nuclear deal

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani held consultations with State Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi. A meeting took place in Tehran.

The main topic was the discussion related to the de-escalation of the situation around the “nuclear deal” concluded in 2015. Thus, the parties stressed the need to further advance the negotiation process on the Iranian nuclear deal, which would provide for the restoration of the frozen assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) in exchange for the release of US citizens held in Iranian prisons.

The head of the Qatari Foreign Ministry also held talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian, during which the latter highly appreciated the developing relations between the two countries. Moreover, he drew attention to the words of Al Khulaifi that the ongoing consultations between Tehran and Doha are aimed primarily at strengthening bilateral ties, contributing to the development of new channels of interaction.
