US President Donald Trump has imposed additional import duties on almost all countries in the world – 185 out of 195, including small islands where no people live at all.
This topic has overshadowed all others and has become the most discussed in the media, political circles and among economists. Naturally, countries considered to be US allies are very unhappy with Trump’s decision, although many of them had previously imposed duties on imports of American goods. In Europe, they are calculating the upcoming multi-billion dollar losses from Trump’s trade war, giving his decision rather unflattering assessments.
In particular, former French Economy Minister Alain Madeleine, speaking in parliament, called the duties introduced by Trump “hooligan methods” that trample on international law. When the West introduced unilateral sanctions against Iran, North Korea, and Russia, for some reason, local politicians did not characterize their decisions in this way.
