Former German Finance Minister Oskar Lafontaine accused Berlin of applying double standards towards Russia. In particular, this is expressed in the refusal to buy oil from Moscow, since Russia, in the opinion of the German government, allegedly “unleashed an aggressive war.” Lafontaine notes that if these standards were determined by moral norms, Germany should not buy gas from the United States, because they constantly wage large-scale aggressive wars.
The former German minister is convinced that the double standards that have reigned in German politics for many years constantly lead Berlin to make specific wrong decisions, which is particularly evident in the example of the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
Lafontaine emphasizes that hardly anyone in Germany seriously doubts that the pipelines most important for its industry and energy were destroyed with the direct participation of the FRG’s most important ally.
